ECSI Institute Workshop 2005
9 December, 2005 - Europole Hotel, Grenoble, France
Evatronix took part in a conference on platform modeling and performance analysis during the ECSI
Institute Workshop in Grenoble.
The event entitled “Models aren’t enough, you have to use them in a clever way!”
was organized by ECSI and GreenSocs in conjunction with IP/SoC Conference, and was one of the
series of workshops that address advanced topics in system design. This time it focused on
platform-based design.
Some of the open questions were:
1. What can the platform creators "characterise" in order to make the platform use easier?
2. What tools do platform users need?
3. What kind of business model is likely going to work, for platform creators and users (for both
tools and IP)?
The workshop was run as three sessions with presentations done by invited speakers with an extended
panel discussion at the end of each session. The mentioned sessions were:
Session 1: Platform Based Design: User Needs
Session 2: Platform Providers: Today’s Possibilities
Session 3: Platform Design Environment, Methods and Tools
Session 4: Business Models
Wojciech Sakowski, representing both Silesian University of Technology and Evatronix, as the
President and Chief Strategy Officer was invited to take part in the second Session, with problems
addressed such as:
• What can the platform creators provide as measurable characteristics to facilitate the use
of a platform?
• To what degree will platform creators provide "everything"?
• How much work will the platform user need to do (write models, or just configure
them?)
• What’s possible today, and what needs working on?
At the end of the workshop, the fourth session was held, with all of invited speakers taking
part.
