Evatronix unveils an Embedded Internet Subplatform
R8051XC-MAC-L-HA provides designers with a highly configurable solution for
internet enabled System-on-Chips
Gliwice, Bielsko-Biala, Poland & Jacksonville, FL, United States, October 28,
2007 – Evatronix SA, the silicon Intellectual Property (IP) provider, has announced the immediate
availability of its Embedded Internet Subplatform that combines two company IP cores: R8051XC
microcontroller and MAC-L Ethernet media access controller with the CMX-MicroNetTM TCP/IP software
stack from CMX Systems, Inc.
Similar products available on the market are based on off-the-shelf chips.
As R8051XC-MAC-L-HA is a combination of soft IP cores it may be easily integrated into
system-on-chip and implemented in any semiconductor technology. Moreover, the Ethernet Media Access
Controller being a part of the R8051XC-MAC-L-HA reduces processor overhead through
hardware-accelerated TCP/IP checksum generation and checking when servicing critical TCP/IP
functions. Therefore a lot of R8051XC processing power remains available to run user application.
The combination of these two cores may take as little as 30K gates in UMC 0.18 um process. The
throughput of the subplatform may be further enhanced by making use of the optional DMA feature of
the R8051XC microcontroller core.
“We are bringing to market a complete subsystem that makes it easy to develop systems-on-chip
that require Internet access. Availability of a dedicated prototyping environment along with a
reference design that illustrates controlling and monitoring of embedded systems via Internet
brings additional benefits to its users.” said Tomasz Kowalczyk, network product line manager
at Evatronix. “In-system debugging capability of R8051XC is fully supported by this
development environment.” he concluded.
"CMX is very pleased to work with Evatronix to develop a solution that combines our TCP/IP
software with their hardware components to enable efficient integration of Internet connectivity
into ASICs or ASSPs. Our small footprint TCP/IP stack fits perfectly with Evatronix configurable
8-bit microcontroller. The flexibility of this architecture makes it a perfect choice for
implementation in a broad range of Internet enabled systems-on-chip.” said Chuck Behrmann,
CMX President and CEO.
Availability
Development boards supporting evaluation of the Embedded Internet Subplatform and prototyping of
systems containing it are available off-the-shelf immediately. A full commercial product will be
released in November. Commercial licenses of the CMX-MicroNetTM software TCP/IP stack supporting
all hardware accelerated features will be available from CMX Systems, Inc.
About CMX Systems, Inc.
Since its inception in 1990, CMX Systems has focused on providing its customers with all of the
tools needed to program their embedded applications. The company's core business is to develop and
support real-time, multi-tasking operating systems (RTOS), TCP/IP stacks, Flash File Systems, USB
stacks and the CANopen stack for a wide variety of 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit microcomputers,
microprocessors, and digital signal processors. The company's RTOSes support more than 50
processor families and over 30 C-compiler vendors. CMX also offers the tiny CMX-MicroNet, which is
a unique TCP/IP stack that is targeted for 8-, 16-, 32-bit and DSP processors with limited ROM
and/or RAM and CMX TCP/IP, a full-featured TCP/IP stack designed for 16-, 32-bit and DSP
processors. CMX additionally offers four different Flash File Systems to best meet the memory
management needs of embedded developers. CMX-USB is offered for designers wishing to add USB
connectivity to their products. For more information, please visit CMX Systems’ website at www.cmx.com
